THE INDIAN WEDDING

Unlike the Western -style weddings we are familiar with, a traditional Indian wedding can be spread over 3 days with various ceremonies (often held privately by the family of the groom or bride) before the final ceremony. This exhibition of photographs taken by Margaret Chandra at various Indian weddings over the past 9 years shows some of these traditions and gives some background about the meaning of the ceremonies. You will find the variety of the costumes and the ceremonies will reveal much more than just the “glitter” so often associated with Indian weddings. And of course there are tears and laughter just like any family wedding. The exhibition will open on Saturday – Monday, 28 – 30 January. Then  Sat – Mon in February, March  and early April till Easter. Hrs are 11-4.

Kyneton Daffodil Festival 2011 Photography Prizes

The three winners were Catherine Woodger (for her photo,”Leo”), Peter Smith (for his photo, “Piper Street Stars“) and Sam White (for his photo, “A Future Direction”). The two judges, Maxine McKee, inspirational professional artist and teacher, and Howard Maylor, Webmaster and photographer for the Kyneton and the Daffodil & Arts websites had made their difficult decisions earlier in the week. Below Catherine is pictured with Gallery40 Manager, Margaret Chandra, receiving her award from the Daffodil Royals.

Celebrating Safe Motherhood – a great show!

Selection of images from the Safe Motherhood exhibition
This exciting new exhibition combined a wide range of photographs and art work contributed by many generous people including AVI, Marie Stopes International, CKF, Zoos Vic, Mary Considine, Kathryn Portelli, Marnie Tole & Len Johnston.

MSF contributed its magazines, Maggie Millar enlivened our opening and special thanks to the Zonta Club of Kyneton who loaned us an example of a birthing kit and their book of information – as well as officially opening the exhibition.

The exhibition was inspired by the White Ribbon Alliance and their increased efforts to try to lower mortality rates of mothers and babies – by giving a “safe motherhood” environment and support during pregnancy and delivery – as well as us celebrating 100 years of International Women’s Day.

We would also like this exhibition to travel to other places – any ideas?? Phone Margaret 0438356025.
