Margaret Chandra’s 16th photography exhibition uses images to contrast details from the Cape Otway Lighthouse in Victoria with the remarkable rock formations of Cappadocia in Turkey, emphasising shapes and textures.
The peculiarities of each site are explored through close-ups of light shapes, unexpected patterns in the buildings and the joy of smaller things. The title of the exhibition also refers to the similarity each subject has in its protection of humans in need – offering them warning or sanctuary from danger.
The rock sites in Turkey were homes to Christians who fled to hide and set up living quarters inside some of the caves with Byzantine paintings still visible in their small chapel ceilings and walls.
The photos will engage both lovers of lighthouses and viewers interested in Cappadocia – a fascinating area of Turkey!
Hours are 11 – 4 and dates are 30, 31 August, 5-7 and 11-13 September 2014.
We look forward to seeing you soon at Gallery40 at 9 Piper St, Kyneton.

I wemt to these places with Margaret, but there are photos in her gallery of aspects of the trip which I was unaware of at the time. She has a knack of seeing things through the lens of her camera and portraying the colour and composition of the scene, which is truly fascinating!
